Cirbo double brings HUAC O30 back on course

Two goals from Terry Cirbo helped HUAC beat W.I. Jets at College of Dupage and move within five points of National Soccer League leaders Jahbat F.C. who have two more 2 games at hand.

HUAC debutant striker Louie Flores brought home the first after he fired a tremendous shot past the W.I. Jets goalie from about 30 yards out.

Cirbo's second-half penalty sealed the win for HUAC.

"I was pleased to get an early goal as I felt this would be an awkward game for us," said HUAC coach John Kosmas. "We were obviously delighted when we got the third to give us that little bit of cushion."

HUAC's quick passing movements stretched W.I. Jets from the start, however it took twenty minutes for the O30 side to take the lead through Flores. It was a stunning long-range shot from Flores that gave the lead to HUAC. After the goal W.I. Jets started to pressure but the HUAC defense held on to finish the half up 1-0.

The Jets started their pressure right off the bat in the second half but HUAC were able to take the pressure and settle well. Papakostas came to the rescue for HUAC on a couple of occasions when he did well to close the gap between himself and W.I. Jets forwards that had broken through the HUAC defense.

HUAC were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute after substitute Chris Stavrou, being on the field for no more than a minute, was tripped in the box by the W.I. Jets goalie. Cirbo stepped up to take it and finished low in the bottom right-hand corner for his first of the game.

It was Cirbo five minutes later who picked up a loose ball in the penalty box and send it in the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Four minutes later Mele could have made it 4-0 when he beat the offside trap, completely outran the last defender and the oncoming goalie but failed to slot the ball home in front of an empty net.

"I started off slow in the first half but came in strong in the second," said HUAC's leading scorer (Mele) after the game, who's surging runs have been creating havoc in the opposing defenses.

The rest of the game was played at a physical pace as both sides looked for another goal.

HUAC are playing Stare Byki F.C. next, only a week after the same team spanked HUAC 4-0 at Olympic Park.

Line Up: Papakostas (GK), A. Javaras, Velios, Moraitis, Rivetti, Ninis, Lencioni, Cirbo, Hernandez, Mele, Flores.

Subs: Kralj, Samels, B. Javaras, Stavrou
