The "Green Cats" were never able to cause HUAC any trouble and were sent home empty-handed...
First Half
HUAC started the match with attacking intentions and needed only 2 minutes to create the first chance of the game. Mario Mele went by his opponent on the right and sent in a sweet cross for Terry Cirbo, who only just missed the ball.
Gato Verde tested Evan Laskaris for the first time after four minutes. A shot by a Gato Verde player was picked up with ease by the HUAC goalie.
Terry Cirbo found the net after seven minutes with a placed effort from close range.
HUAC picked up a deserved second goal around the 15th minute after Mario Mele beat his marker to the ball before slotting the ball home with a powerful shot. This was the first of three that Mele would end up with for the afternoon.
After the second goal Gato Verde started to what seems to be tactics of a team that was not there to play soccer but to try and deceive the referee with false accusations and play, while at the same time play dirty at all levels.
"I have never seen such a dirty team in the Over-30's for a long time now," said a disgusted Kosmas after the game.
"They try to intimidate you by playing dirty, and their forwards must have had watched once to many shows of the great 10-meter platform diver Greg Louganis as children," added Kosmas.
"Pinching players on their back with their hands, or stepping on feet of HUAC players just shows how desperate of a team they are and the mindset of some of their players. They are simply a dirty-dirty team," concluded Kosmas.
Gato Verde was awarded a penalty around the 30th minute after one of their forwards was brought to the ground inside the box by Alex Javaras. The penalty shot had to be retaken twice with Gato Verde finding the back of the net both times to make the score 2-1.
Second Half
HUAC started the second half brilliantly and got their first serious chance of the match after only three minutes. Jeff Samels cut inside from the left before unleashing a curled effort towards the far corner, which saw the ball miss wide.
Terry Cirbo tripled the lead for HUAC after an exciting attack in the 50th minute. Mario Mele setup Terry Cirbo, who took the ball inside the box and didn't hesitate to take a shot that beat the Gato Verde goalie.
Gato Verde got on the board 5 minutes later to make the score 3-2 but Jeff Samels and Mario Mele had other things in mind. Samels made a run into the Gato Verde box where he was met by an oncoming goalie who's contact was enough for the refree to point to the spot. Mele stepped up to the plate and send the goalkeeper one way and the ball the other to make the score 4-3 in the 70th minute.
Gato Verde were not done and got back on the board 5 minutes later to make the score 4-3.
It was Mele's day as the HUAC player cut inside from the left wing before unleashing a low right footed effort that hit the goalies hand and the back of the net to make the final score of 5-3.
