After losing their season opener the HUFC Over 30 Team turned in a smashing result last Saturday at the College of DuPage when they dismantled N.S.L. newcomers Atletico Jalisco 5-1. HUFC O30, led by Mario Mele's goals and assist, dominated the first half en route to a 4-0 lead at the break. HUFC and Atletico Jalisco shared a goal each during the second half of play.
HUFC O30 started out lively and snatched the early lead after only 7 minutes. Yannie Moraitis started the play in midfield and sent Mario Mele on a long jaunt down the left side. Mele, with all kinds of time, picked out an on-coming Giuseppe Rivetti in the box, who had no problem placing the ball in the back of the net.
Eight minutes later, Mele turned to scorer when the Atletico Jalisco goalkeeper cleared the ball to the middle of the field. Mele controlled the ball, took a couple of steps and send a scorcher from 35 yards, to beat the keeper and send the ball resting comfortably in the back of the net . Nick Penesis had a similar goal from 25 yards out when the Atletico Jalisco goalkeeper cleared the ball directly to him in the 22nd minute of play to make the score 3-0. It took 13 minutes for HUFC O30 to score their fourth of the game. Mele played a corner kick into the mixer, with the ball ending up at Moraitis' feet who in turn served back into the box where Petros Padatos picked and shot the ball in the back of the net in the 35th.
HUFC O30 continued their domination after the break, as Mario Mamalis, Petros Ninis, and Chris Stavrou all had one-on-one situations to extend the scoreline.
Atletico Jalisco pulled one back in the 53rd minute, as the HUFC O30 players thought their player was offsides and failed to cover. HUFC O30 scored their last goal in the 70th when Mario Mele stole the ball from the Atletico Jalisco left defender and ran into the box to finish off with a nice lob over the diving goalkeeper.
