HUAC "White" took on last year's 2nd Division Champions Brusfa FC this past Sunday hoping for the chance that would redeem the team after a disappointing loss to the start of the season against current 1st Division Red Section leaders Das Magic.
Due to the "Mother's Day" holiday HUAC was only able to muster a 12 player roster who in turn put in a great performance against a strong Brusfa FC side.
HUAC was able to take control of the game right from the start and kept that momentum going for the most part of the first half finishing off with a couple quality opportunities.
One of them came in the 35th minute of the game when Ryan Widell won a free kick outside of the Brusfa FC penalty box after completing a strong run. Widell was also the one to deliver the kick that send the ball screaching towards the top corner of the Brusfa goal to open the scoreline for HUAC at 1-0 before the end of the first 45.
After the break Brusfa FC pressured for the equalizer but HUAC held up strong for the most part. In the 65th minute of the match a Brusfa FC striker managed to squeeze through the center of the defense and drive one past HUAC keeper Bobby Markatos to level the game at 1-1.
More times than often a team will get down on themselves after giving up such a goal and the match momentum will switch. However, this was not the case with HUAC as they knew that they were the better team on the day and deserved the victory. HUAC came out strong looking for that 2nd goal and produced several quality opportunities.
It was in the the dying minutes of the game (85') that HUAC got the well deserved 2nd goal when Maxim Vaillant was able to find Jakub Kruhlik with a nice lob that Kruhlik headed away convincingly.
In the 94th minute Vaillant also was awarded a penalty on a brilliant run where he megged the defender and was taken down.
Vaillant took the penalty but rattled it off the cross bar to keep the score at 2-1 in favor of HUAC.
The most impressive aspect of the victory on Sunday was the collective team effort starting from goalkeeper Bobby Markatos all the way to the front of the line.
