Hellenic United Blue came away with a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Colomex Friday, September 18th at Lake Shore Drive and Montrose. The match was a make up of the original game that was to be played at the beginning of the second half of the season.
 
Colomex got on the board first with what can be best described as a flukey goal. Goalkeeper Ogar Khoshaba appeared to have called off defender Firas Abraham on a corner kick that was dribbling towards Hellenic United's goal. Abraham let the ball roll past him, and then watched in horror as Khoshaba stood frozen at the near post while the ball rolled leisurely past him and inside the far post.
 
"I'm not sure I've ever seen that in all my years in soccer" said HU coach Andy Sotiropoulos. "I've never seen a ball roll in untouched directly from a corner. Ogar and Firas simply got their signals crossed."
 
Hellenic United was able to get it back later in the first half, as pressure exerted by strikers Alen Snjecanin and Elias Litos led to a Colomex own goal. "I guess that was poetic justice" said Sotiropoulos.      
 
Nither team could manage a tally in the second half and they both came away with a single point.
 
"It was a very evenly matched game" said Sotiropoulos. "A draw is a fair result.  I just can't understand why we're supposed to play a make up game on a non make up date-a Friday night nonetheless. I also don't understand how a team that normally plays at 9 am on Sunday mornings in Rogers Park schedules a make up game for 8:45 pm on a Friday night at Lake Shore Drive and Montrose. They've had two months to schedule this game, and this is the best they can come up with? And then they tell us about it a week in advance? And the funny part is, they rescheduled the original game because supposedly they were going to a tournament in Michigan, yet they call us up two days later and want to play a "friendly" on the originally scheduled match date. Who commits to a tournament on a regular season date, and then tells the league about it a week before the regular season game? This is the kind of game playing and bs that give this league, and certain teams, a bad name. I had to play this match short handed as a result of these shenanigans, and it seems like nobody can do anything about it.
 
Then we get to the field and they refuse to wear a uniform until they see what kit we put on. What kind of nonsense is that? Evey team has  a primary home uniform. Wear it and be done with it. The referee has to step in and ask them what color they're wearing instead of waiting to see what we put on and then making us to change.  Did Colomex honestly believe we didn't have a second kit? This is petty, bush league nonsense. It's like a three ring circus out there."
