Alen Smjecanin tallied twice for Hellenic United in their August 30 match against Gazelle, but it wasn't enough as the visitors came from behind on two separate occassions to earn a 2-2 tie. The draw kept Gazelle's playoff hopes alive in the hotly contested Blue Division.
"This was a very good Gazelle team we played today, much stronger than the first time we met" said HU coach Andy Sotiropoulos. "I'm just disappointed we gave up a lead twice, especially on their last goal...we need to do a better job of communicating in the back. That last goal was a gift. This was a very winnable match, and yet we managed to complicate things quite a bit. A victory here would have put us in the catbirds seat with respect to the playoffs.
If Gazelle brings this same team to the rest of their matches, they're going to give a lot of people problems. They're physically the strongest team we've played all year."
Hellenic United's next match is against NSL powerhouse RWB Adria September 11th at Hawthorne Field in Cicero.
